The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA): Proposed Rules for Produce Safety and for the Preventive Controls for Human Food Public Meeting. The first meeting in a series of three public meetings to be held on these FSMA proposals will be held in Washington, D.C.

Owning Produce Safety
The produce industry takes food safety seriously and will use the recent report on foodborne illness to spur additional research and practical applications to advance public health, according to Bryan Silbermann, president and CEO of the Produce Marketing Association. Silbermann spoke in response to the release of a new paper by the CDC.

Spring Stinkbug Population Boom Predicted
The recent influx of stinkbugs into the Shenandoah Valley and surrounding areas will be followed by a population boom this spring, according to entomologists. This past year, the brown marmorated stinkbugs that have gone into hibernation were at higher numbers than in the past two years.
