Headline Fungicide Named a No-Till Product of the Year
Headline fungicide from BASF was recognized as fungicide of the year during the 17th Annual National No-Tillage Conference 2009 No-Till Product of the Year awards presentation. The recognition marks the fourth consecutive year that Headline fungicide has been proclaimed the leading fungicide on the market by no-till farmers nationwide.

Headline fungicide is used to protect more than 90 crops, including corn, soybeans and wheat, and controls more than 50 diseases.

Regalia Biofungicide Announcements
Marrone Bio Innovations (MBI) announces that its new fungicide, Regalia, is now listed by the OMRI. When registered by the EPA in May of 2009, the product received status for use in organic production under the National Organic Program (NOP), which means organic growers could legally use Regalia.

MBI also announces that the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) has approved the use of Regalia in the state of California. Regalia contains a unique active ingredient from the extract of giant knotweed that provides control of both fungal and bacterial diseases in many key California crops.

Regalia controls downy mildew, powdery mildew, botrytis gray mold, early blight, late blight, bacterial leaf spot, citrus canker and more. Walnut growers may use it against Xanthomonas campestris and in walnut blight control programs to aid in the management of copper-resistant strains. Regalia also controls downy mildew in leafy greens, powdery mildew in grapes and can be safely used in rotation with sulfur. Additionally, Regalia offers late-season control of botrytis bunch rot with four-hour re-entry and zero day pre-harvest interval.

Rimon Insecticide Receives Approval for Sap Beetle Control in Florida
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has granted a specific exemption to allow the use of Rimon insecticide to control sap beetles on strawberries in the state of Florida again this year. The exemption was granted under section 18 of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act.

The use of the product, Rimon 0.83 EC Insecticide (EPA Reg. No. 66222-35-400), manufactured by Chemtura Corp., is allowed through December 31, 2010, under certain conditions and restrictions.

Rimon’s active ingredient, novaluron, is authorized for use to control sap beetles on strawberries in the state of Florida. Rimon controls larvae and acts as an ovicide on sap beetles for optimum control in conjunction with products labeled for adults.

Rimon may be applied by ground equipment at a rate of 12 fluid ounces of product per acre, with a maximum of three applications per site per season. Rimon may not be applied within 75 feet of bodies of water such as lakes, reservoirs, rivers, permanent streams, natural ponds or marshes. All applications must include a 25-foot vegetative buffer within the buffer zone to decrease runoff.

OMRI Organic Listings for Tiger Micronutrients Manganese 15%
H.J Baker’s wholly owned subsidiary Tiger-Sul Products Co. announces Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) listing for Tiger Micronutrients Manganese 15%, a homogeneous formulation of sulfur and manganese fertilizer. The low manganese analysis allows for increased particle distribution and optimum feeding sites for improved micronutrient performance.

The OMRI provides growers, manufacturers and suppliers an independent review of products intended for use in certified organic production, handling and processing.

New Technology Enables Glyphosate Tank Mix with Zn/Mn
Growers of glyphosate-tolerant crops such as corn, soybeans, sugar beets and cotton can now add zinc and manganese to their early season glyphosate applications with the new Sysstem-Ready nutrient formulation from Agro-K Corp. that is compatible with glyphosate herbicide.

Sysstem-Ready phosphite ions give zinc and manganese systemic movement through the plant and down into the roots to support key development areas of the plant in a timely manner.

The Sysstem-Ready technology also is available in calcium, magnesium, and potassium formulations. Each is compatible with the other.

New Soil Fungicide for Early Season Disease Control
AgraQuest, Inc. announced the launch of Serenade Soil, the first soil fungicide based on its patented active ingredient Bacillus subtilis strain QST 713. In 2010, Serenade Soil fungicide will be available in the U.S. for growers needing protection against soil diseases such as rhizoctonia, Fusarium, pythium and Phytophthora in potatoes, tomatoes and cucurbits.

When Serenade Soil is applied at planting, the beneficial bacteria attack soil diseases, while colonizing the seedling and root. Once colonized, the bacteria produce compounds that not only continue attacking soil diseases, but also trigger metabolic pathways to activate the plant’s natural defenses and modulate growth.
