December 7-8, Washington, D.C.

This year’s American Peanut Council Winter Conference will be held December 7-8 at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill, three blocks from Union Station. Krysta Harden, chief of staff at USDA, will address the industry, and Dr. Michael Kashtock of the FDA will discuss implementation of the new Food Safety Modernization Act. The event will also welcome Mary Jane Marchisotto, executive director of the Food Allergy Initiative, a private organization that raises funding for food allergy research.

The special keynote luncheon speaker will be the Rev. David Beckmann, one of the foremost advocates for hungry people and president of Bread for the World, a nationwide faith-based citizens’ movement against hunger that mobilizes a quarter of a million constituent letters to Congress each year. He also founded and serves as president of the Alliance to End Hunger, which engages diverse institutions in building political will to end hunger. Beckmann is an accomplished author and the winner of the prestigious 2010 World Food Prize.

All of the APC and Peanut Foundation board and committee meetings will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, December 7-8, allowing ample travel time home on Friday. As a reminder, APC will no longer hold the Spring Conference.

There will also be two cocktail receptions, one each night of the conference, and members are welcome to invite government and regulatory contacts if they would like.

As in past years, the National Peanut Board will also be holding its meetings in conjunction with the APC Winter Conference, beginning December 5 and ending December 7. Also, the National Peanut Board will be holding an all-industry luncheon on Wednesday, December 7. All APC participants are invited to attend.
