Anyone old enough to remember the classic musical film “The Sound of Music” will quickly finish that headline by singing along,”Auf wiedersehen, adieu.” As the children file out of the room to their beds, they sing to the guests as both a thank you and a farewell. There’s a mix of both happiness and melancholy in that song, which seems fitting.

This editorial will be my final chat with you all, as I move on to new horizons, away from what was once the ink-stained wretches of ag media (but what is now 0s and 1s, of course). For nearly 16 years here – almost all of which have involved growers in some way, shape or form – I’ve worked hard to bring you valuable information in all its flavors, from research studies, success stories, news, new products and more to help you and your operation improve and succeed.

It’s been immensely rewarding work, and the hundreds of growers and industry professionals with whom I’ve had the pleasure of working will hold a special place in my memory. There is amazing satisfaction knowing that our hard work helps with your hard work feeding the world.

The changes we’ve seen over the last 15 years in this industry have been revolutionary, and not just on the technology front. Growers will always face the challenges of labor, costs and weather. However, you’re now juggling new technology, changing regulations and evolving pest/disease issues. It’s never a dull moment, that’s for sure!

With that, I’d like to introduce you to your new editor, Stephanie Peake. Stephanie’s been with Moose River Media for over five years, working on multiple brands, in multiple industries simultaneously, including Growing her entire time here at Moose River Media. She’s worked closely with me to craft an exciting, informative and progressive plan for 2013, which she looks forward to bringing to you each month. I can’t speak highly enough of her, and I’m glad to see Growing in such capable hands going forward.

Beginning next month, you’ll be hearing from her and getting to know more about her, where she hopes to take the brand and her vision of the industry.

So, thank you all – for both being a constant and supportive reader but also for producing the world’s safest, most abundant food supply. We couldn’t do it without you.
