Tanaka Expands Warranty Program
Tanaka products retailed after October 1, 2007 will carry a two-year commercial use warranty and a three-year consumer use warranty. The prior coverage for commercial use was one year (with the exception of select blower and drill models which carried two-year coverage) and two years for consumer use. This new warranty coverage applies to all products except for the TBC-225C and TBC-225CS grass trimmers which are not intended for commercial use. Other main components of the overall warranty will remain unchanged.
Siegers Conducting Radish Trials
Siegers Seed Company conducts trials on all seeds before they are released to growers and they currently have the Vilmorin AGORA and RICARDO hybrid radish in trials. The company is aiming for large-diameter radish varieties that are less likely to split, pith or bleed.
Nunhems Expands Asparagus Breeding Program
Bayer CropScience’s vegetable seed business Nunhems has acquired all assets relating to the asparagus breeding program from the Dutch Teboza Research. Teboza specializes in the breeding and production of asparagus varieties and is one of the biggest producers of asparagus plants and fresh asparagus in Europe. The acquired germplasm offers new breeding and growth opportunities in Europe, Asia and the Americas. Nunhems expects commercialization of the first hybrids within three years.
Scott Joins Exosect
Exosect, a provider of IPM solutions, has announced the appointment of David Scott as formulations development manager. With over 18 years of experience as an analytical chemist in a variety of industries, Scott joins Exosect from Dextra Laboratories.
Sundia to Pay Growers for Product Brand
Sundia Corporation has decided that it will begin paying members of its grower and shipper network to brand their products Sundia. Starting with watermelons and pumpkins in 2008, the company will pay rebates for loads that branded Sundia. Other benefits include discounts on labels, pallets, stickers, bins and shipping. Free Web site development and customer service are also provided for network members.
IA Honors Eckstein and Hamisch
The Irrigation Association has awarded the IA Industry Achievement Award to two men who have shown dedication and leadership in the irrigation industry.
Gershon Eckstein of Drip Irrigation Systems is credited with numerous irrigation patents, including a patent for a method of manufacturing pipes with the integrated dripper units. Fred Hamisch, president of Hydratech, is founding member of the Irrigation Dealers Association of California and drove the effort to expand the organization’s reach as it became the California Agricultural Irrigation Association. Among other things, Hamisch has been involved in the design and installation of irrigation systems in the Middle East, Mexico, South America and Asia.
New Holland Supports Use of Biodiesel
New Holland has announced its support for the use of B100 biodiesel in all equipment with New Holland-manufactured diesel engines, including electronic injection engines with common rail technology. Nearly 80-percent of New Holland-branded products with diesel engines are now available to operate with B100 biodiesel that is produced to ASTM D6751 standards.
