Electric Garden shredders on a Budget

Whether you like outdoor work or not, it is time-consuming. And since technology advances rapidly, it is somewhat normal to assume that there are machines that can do the same amount of work in a shorter period of time, and much more efficiently. Aside from saving precious time, you can save a lot of money by making your own organic material. We are here to help you with your choice, and the main focus is on the electric variety. The thing you should consider is your budget, and maybe to do a little research about internal mechanics since they all work in different ways. And you should consider yard size. So finally, here are our recommendations.

Sun Joe CJ602E-GRY

This is only one of the several wood chippers that are being produced by New Jersey based company called Sun Joe, that are also known for their other yard work and outdoor equipment like lawn mowers, fire pits, pressure washers, leaf blowers, etc. Sun Joes CJ602E-GRY is not for commercial use since it has a very small opening and can’t handle thick and heavy branches. Its motor operates on 15-amp and can reach up to 4,400 revolutions per minute, so it should be enough for a modest shredding, and it comes with a safety stop if the hopper is opened. A great machine if you seek something on a budget.

Eco-Shredder ES1600

Another decent one for smaller jobs, but it won’t do much if you want to use it for anything more than that since this one tends to jam more than you might expected. Good option if you are a patient one as you’ll have to feed it manually and slowly. But, it is safe with its automatical shut off if jammed. Not so modest in price but certainly cheaper than other solutions on the market. And one of its pros is its design that makes it easy to use especially if there’s plenty of work.

Earthwise GS70015 is similar in design with Eco-Shredder and Motor power like Sun Joes, and it matches their prices. Weights around 31 pounds, and with its slim design it is easy to move around with.  Working on steel blades, won’t make you hate the fracturing and changing cycle, now knowing it works on steel, you won’t believe how quiet it is compared to other gas-powered shredders. But Earthwise’s only flaw is, if overworked, clogging and jamming. Be sure to always wear safety glasses, since now and then you’ll have to give a kick back.

GreatCircleUSA 7HP Heavy Duty Chipper

If you feel that previous models are weak for what you need, then we recommend this one. BUT first, just to make things clear, it is gas powered. EPA3 and CARB certified, so you don’t have to worry about the safety, and manufacturer gives it a 3-year warranty. Unlike others, this one can swallow branches 3 inches in diameter.

Flowtron LE-900

An honorable mention, if you are looking for something that can handle leaves (pine needles too). It shreds leaves in an incredible ratio, 30 to 1 with its powerful motor, and it is easy to clean since so many sliced particles could make it messy. Although it is powerful, it is designed only for leaves and things alike, so don’t try to add any branches.

So, if you have a small yard and minimum requirements, you should consider using an electric garden shredder, and if you only want to cut leaves, you should buy a leaf shredder instead of bigger and more expensive machines. As your needs grow, consider more complex models. Have in mind that electric ones take more time, and if you are OK with gas powered machines, go for it.

Hope we helped you with your choice, happy work!
