Bosch ROS20VSC – Best Orbital Sander for Dust Collection Review

Bosch ROS20VSC Palm Sander

Function

The Bosch ROS20VSC is a 5-inch random orbital palm sander/polisher that can be used to smooth the surface of both metal and wood.

One of the sander’s most noteworthy features is its adjustable speed control, which starts at 7,500 OPM (oscillations per minute) and caps off at a whopping 12,000 OPM.

This feature is extremely desirable, as it enables users to tailor the sander’s intensity depending on its application.

It is also pairs expertly with the sander’s soft hook-and-loop pad attachment. Together, the two elements help to reduce the occurrence of surface swirls.

Dust Collection

The ROS20VSC also features a versatile dust collection system. First off, the vacuum comes with a removable onboard dust canister.

This canister features a micro-filter for trapping especially fine dust and wood particles.

It is mounted on the back of the sander. Debris is sucked up directly through the holes in the sanding pad.

While the sander can hold a good amount of debris, it needs to be emptied regularly.

Users also have the option to attach the ROS20VSC to select vacuum cleaner hoses. An adapter can be purchased to convert a regular shop vacuum into a dust collection device. While the onboard dust collection system works well, this optional extension is a great option for individuals working on large projects.

Pad Attachment

It’s also worth noting that the ROS20VSC has a soft hook-and-loop pad attachment feature. This creates a level and secure connection between a sandpaper pad and the motorized sanding base. On top of this, the mounting pad boasts a microcellular barrier for smoother, flatter, and more blemish-free sanding results.

What’s more, the sander has an onboard dampening ring that aids in the prevention of swirl marks. According to Bosch, the hook-and-loop disc attachment, which is called Hook-Tight, features over 35,000 life-long hooks. Supposedly, this attachment features two-times the number of hooks as a standard hook-and-loop closure.

Performance

With plenty of power and loads of innovative elements, this handheld sander is a well-vetted performer. It weighs just over 3 1/2 pounds and operates with minimal vibrations. On top of that, it has an ergonomic build as well as a soft-grip top and body. As such, most users say it was well-suited for lengthy or challenging sanding jobs.

What’s Included

The kit comes with several items, including a sander, soft sanding pad, dampening ring, microfilter dust canister, vacuum hose adapter, sanding disc, and carrying bag.

The sander is 5 inches wide, 6 inches high, and 9 inches long. The sanding disc has a 5-inch diameter. The orbit diameter is 3/32 inch. Whereas, the orbit radius is 3/64 inch.

What We Liked

The Bosch motor is extremely powerful and resilient. In fact, it has an impressive 120-volt rating. We tested it out on hardwood to see how easy it was to use and how well it performed. We couldn’t be happier with the results. First off the sanding pads were super easy to attach. It also did a fabulous job of sanding a wide variety of wood samples. In fact, all of the boards we tested were left with a smooth, swirl-free surface.

We also love that this tool is corded. There’s simply no need to purchase or maintain a rechargeable battery. So long as you have an adequate power source, you work on your sanding project from start to finish. That means absolutely no interruptions!

With the goal to test dozens of wooden boards and even a few metal surfaces, we naturally expected our hand and arm to feel fatigued. However, the soft gripping surface of this Bosch sander was surprisingly comfortable. Despite completing a lengthy trial period, we felt fine!

Bosch ROS20VSC vs  ROS20VSK

Table could not be displayed.

The ROS20VSK and ROS20VSC have a lot in common. In fact, many people find it impossible to decipher the difference between the two tools.

That’s fair, considering they are virtually identical. Frankly, the only difference is that the ROS20VSC comes with a soft fabric carrying bag. Whereas, the ROS20VCK comes with a hard plastic case. All other technical aspects of the sanders are the same.

Since the most important thing is the sander’s performance, we don’t believe the difference is worth hashing over.

Final Thoughts

The ROS20VSC is one of the most reliable and hard-working orbital sanders we’ve had the pleasure of testing. We love this tool’s innovative pad system as well as dust collection options.

Moreover, we love the increased precision we gain thanks to the sander’s adjustable speed settings. If you’re looking for a powerful handheld sander that won’t leave swirls or rough patches, then the ROS20VSC is worth a look.
